This Week in Music NFTs - Oct 3
Reo Cragun + Sound Protocol. Warner Music + OpenSea. Zora + FutureTape. Secret Garden + Mike Shinoda. Another electric week of partnerships underpinned by emerging artists.
It’s time for the new class of artists to shine.
This week saw sold out drops from a wide variety of web3 artists - further cementing the developing pocket of up and coming acts.
We saw major labels making major moves as Warner announced a partnership with OpenSea.
While everyone loves to guess how Kanye or Drake might one day release NFTs, there’s a very real culture developing acts minting everyday.
It’s gotten to the point where it’s basically all I think about - how do we empower the next generation of web3 artists?
And it’s not even about how to make them superstars - maybe that comes in time.
It’s about developing the culture and mentality about releasing new music with the world.
Unlearning that you don’t need to wait 6 weeks in between releases. That you don’t need to submit for editorial review 3 weeks in advance. That you don’t need a marketing strategy, a music video or a TikTok campaign.
To me - Music NFTs represent freedom of creativity and curation.
It’s here to support artists and their creations - however niche they may be.
It’s here to give curators and journalist a purpose, and a way to earn a living by collecting the music that will shape the next wave.
Outlets like Billboard are predicting that platforms like Sound will be where these artists break - and frankly, I couldn’t agree more.
From the outside, you see 5-10 songs a week netting anywhere from 0.5 - 2 ETH a drop on average. By web3 standards, these markets are tiny.
But when you hop in a Twitter Space and hear the energy behind a drop like Frameworks selling 333 editions in 2 minutes - you start to feel the energy.
If you’re reading this, you’re a part of that momentum.
It’s very real - and it’s only going to grow.
Here’s what to watch for this week.
