Can Onchain Music Recover?
Optimism RetroPGF. Flyana Boss. Opensea Email. Royal Sonic. Sound Rebrand. 0xSplits x Zora.
Are Music NFTs dead?
Despite huge reward opportunities for onchain artists - the mainstream is still very turned off by NFTs.
Flayana Boss served as the latest example of how fan backlash could turn an artist away from dropping their music onchain.
Iman Europe left her thoughts on the drop in a recent Tweet.
To get a better perspective on the fan view of onchain music we spoke to VÉRITÉ - one of the first onchain artists who just minted this great breakdown of what her fans think of NFTs. Check out episode 41 of our podcast here.
Companies are responding by making their products easier to understand - but that’s only half the battle.
Opensea announced email sign-ins while Sound rebranded its Forever editions to Free editions to make pricing easier to understand.
Optimism announced the RetroPGF Round 3 rewards - with Invest in Music earning 22K OP alongside other onchain music winners like Coop Records Music, Sweetman and LATASHÁ.
All this goes to say - we still have a long way to go to make onchain music click.
But we’re excited the conversation is starting to center around reaching real fans and we’re here to support every step of the way.
